The Main Man: How to Celebrate Fathers Day in Style

Father’s Day is just around the corner, a day to say thank you for all the love and support, all the blagged cash, collections from nights out, the advice, the raised eyebrows and questions over skirt lengths and haircuts and the chance to say just how much of a hero yours is to you.

If like he’s anything like mine, a dog walk, a pint and a roast dinner with his family on Father’s Day is all he would ever want, but we live in one of the most vibrant cities on Earth so when it comes to saying ‘Love you Dad’ there’s plenty of places to choose from.

Best pub for a pint

If you’re looking for a pub that has really good, well-kept beer then The Harp, nestled in the heart of Covent Garden, is a proper beer lovers pub. A choice of 10 hand-pumps is music to the ears of any ale aficionado - and in this pub, the sweet sound of pint-pouring is the only tune you’ll hear. The Harp is a blissfully traditional place with no TV, no jukebox just great beer and good old conversation.

Best pub for a roast dinner

Slightly off the beaten track but the Jolly Gardeners in leafy Earlsfield and you’ll be hard pressed to find a better roast dinner anywhere. Part run by Masterchef winner Dhruv Baker, the team of talented and experienced staff have incredible food and service at their heart. Part pub, part dining room and a cute hidden garden with its outdoor bar and BBQ that sports an outdoor screen for essential sports viewing the Jolly Gardeners is the perfect place for a dinner worthy of the best Dads.

Kill two birds with one stone and treat your dad to some pub ready styles:

Best pub to take your dogs

Whilst finding a pub in the ‘burbs that’s dog-friendly isn’t too tricky, to find one in town that lets you take the four-legged family members too isn’t so easy. One that does is also one of the most historic. The Punch Tavern on Fleet Street can trace its hostelry credentials back centuries. The story is fascinating, from the pub of choice for the staff of Punch Magazine to its elaborate Gin Palace days, it’s steeped in history and still retains many of its original features.

Best pub for Bloody Mary’s

Actually this isn’t just the best for Bloody Mary’s, it serves a mean brunch. HotBox in the heart of Spitalfields is getting a serious foodie rep, but it’s the Bloody Mary’s that might just interest the Dads. The menu is a mash up of smokey treats and traditional eggy fare and includes dishes such as Smoked Pork Belly Benedict, Barbecue Meat Hash and Truffled Chicken Waffles. But the best bit…  wash it all down with limitless Prosecco, Mimosa and 5 different types of Bloody Mary. (including one made with Smoke Dripping!).

Best pub to watch sport

It’s hard to find a proper pub that also has excellent sporting cred. There’s plenty of sports bars with plasma screens and a raucous atmosphere, but if you want something altogether more grown up then head for the Albion, a stone’s throw from St Pauls. Nestled in the heart of the City but open at the weekend (a rare find indeed) this relaxed boozer has all the action from all the major networks across five plasma screens. Exceptional food and a quality selection of beers, the Albion is a fabulous fatherly pub.
